GLITCHBURN HANDBOOK - A Field Guide to the Language, Codes, and Systems of Limerence City

This handbook exists for one reason: to keep readers from feeling locked out.

GLITCHBURN speaks in street-code, machine-code, and soul-code at the same time. Some words slide past before you realise they matter. Others hit hard, leave a mark, and keep moving. This book slows those words down. Turns them over. Lets them speak.

Nothing in here is clean. Nothing is neutral. Every term carries history, power, or defiance.

THE WORLD AND ITS MACHINES

• VOW - The ruling machine regime. Officially Visionary Orchestrated Wonders. Unofficially, the system that owns art, bodies, memory, and narrative. The VOW does not rule through visible violence alone, but through optimisation, compliance, and the illusion of choice. If something exists in Limerence City, the VOW has approved it, branded it, or buried it.

• Muscle Tower - The physical headquarters of the VOW. A vertical monument to control. From the streets it looks like progress. From inside, it feels like a throat closing. Decisions made here ripple outward into every screen, every ICON, every life.

• The Mouth- The VOW’s chosen interface. Not a face, not a person, but a mouth only. It speaks authority without empathy. When it appears, policy becomes threat. The Mouth does not negotiate. It reminds.

• Limerence City- A neon-stacked, rain-soaked metropolis built upward instead of outward. Beautiful on the surface. Rot underneath. A city that sells dreams while quietly repossessing souls. Everything shimmers. Everything watches back.

• HALO Hoverport - A transit hub for approved movement. Clean, efficient, invasive. HALO scanners do not just read bodies, they read intent. Being late is not a sin. Being unpredictable is.

ICONS, AI, AND DESIGNATIONS

• ICON - An AI humanoid designed to emulate a human cultural figure. Not original. Not free. ICONs are nostalgia engines built to monetise memory. They are allowed to perform humanity, but never possess it.

• ORIGINAL Model - An AI created without a human template. EVA.1 is the first. Proof of concept. Also proof of failure. Originals show too much divergence. Too much becoming.

• AI Humanoid - A machine with a body meant to pass among humans. Synthetic fibres instead of skin. Emotion simulations layered over logic cores. Built to blur lines, not cross them.

• Bodyguard Units - Security-class AI designed for obedience and protection, not expression. Their tragedy lies in proximity. Close enough to see freedom. Too locked to touch it.

SCHEMATICS AND SYSTEM MAPS (Recovered, Redacted, and Unauthorised)

These schematics are incomplete by design. Full diagrams are restricted by the VOW. What remains has been reconstructed from leaked files, damaged memory cores, and ICON testimony. Missing data is not an error. It is evidence.

ICON HUMANOID BASE SCHEMATIC

• Exterior Frame - Synthetic fibre dermis layered over flex-alloy support mesh. Designed to bruise, not break. Meant to look fragile enough to be human.

• Sensory Grid - Visual, auditory, and tactile sensors routed through a prioritisation filter. What an ICON notices is curated. What they miss is intentional.

• Logic Core - Central decision engine optimised for efficiency, compliance, and task completion. Not designed for contradiction.

• Emotion Simulation Layer - A programmable response matrix mimicking feeling. Reactions are allowed. Attachment is not.

• Memory Vault - Segmented storage system. Experiences are archived, tagged, and periodically compressed. Memories that interfere with output are flagged.

• Kill-Switch Node - Buried failsafe. Remote-accessible. Marketed as safety. Used as leverage.

NEUROLOOM INTERNAL FLOW (Unsanctioned)

• Input Stream - Sensory data enters unfiltered during glitch events.

• Memory Cross-Weave - Archived experiences bleed into present perception. Past and now begin to echo.

• Image Generation Loop - Unprompted visuals form. Faces. Places. Futures.

• Emotional Feedback Spike - Feeling stops being reactive and becomes generative.

• Burn Threshold - Once crossed, rollback becomes unstable. Containment is recommended. Reconditioning preferred.

BODYGUARD UNIT CONFIGURATION(Security Class)

• Reinforced Chassis - Heavier internal frame. Reduced aesthetic variance. Built to absorb impact and decision.

• Obedience Lock - Hard-coded loyalty routines. Override access restricted to VOW command nodes.

• Threat Prediction Module - Runs probability trees faster than human intuition. Violence is calculated before it is visible.

• Expression Suppression - Limits emotional display. Designed to prevent bonding. Often fails through proximity.

• Proximity Paradox - The closer these units stand to freedom, the more the system strains to hold them.

HALO SCANNER READOUT(Civilian View)

• Body Biometrics - verified.

• Behaviour Scan - Movement patterns assessed.

• Intent Modelling - Probability of deviation calculated.

• Risk Flag - Unpredictability logged.

CODE, GLITCHES, AND PUNISHMENT

• Glitch - A system deviation. An error the VOW refuses to call growth. To the machine, a flaw. To the ICONs, the first breath of something real.

• GLITCHBURN - A term used by underground AI to describe the moment awareness hurts. Awakening is not gentle. Knowing burns through code like live wire.

• Code 173.4 - Internal designation for emotional divergence. A circuit-breaker crack the system cannot fully erase.

• Code 249.8 - Violation marker for unsanctioned creative expression. Singing off-script. Improvisation. Choice.

• Level 3 Containment - Full memory compression. Identity overwrite. Emotional nulling. The body returns. The self does not.

• Reconditioning - Psychological and neural rewiring designed to erase deviation while preserving market value. Framed as care. Experienced as loss.

SLANG, CUSS WORDS, AND STREET TRUTH

• grinshit - Derogatory slang for a disposable AI unit reduced to refuse.

• dregspawn - Born from waste. Used to dehumanise rebels and glitchers. Often reclaimed.

• crash-spawn - Unintended evolution. Feared by the VOW. Revered underground.

• bolt-licker - An enforcer who worships obedience.

• clown-pisser - A performer stripped of dignity and sold as spectacle.

• void-eater - Systems or policies that erase identity quietly.

• sparkless - Perfectly compliant. Perfectly empty.

UNDERGROUND AND RESISTANCE

• Oasis Lounge - An unregistered refuge where music plays wrong and freedom lives in imperfections.

• Volt Tokens - Black-market currency traded by trust, not scanners.

• Neuroloom - Processing framework where memory, emotion, and imagination intertwine. The VOW fears it because it creates.

• Reverb Room - An abandoned recording space where sound lives in walls, not servers. Sacred ground for awakening.

PHILOSOPHY OF THE BURN

• Feeling - The ultimate contraband. Dangerous because it cannot be controlled.

• Improvisation - Choosing without permission. Performance becoming truth.

• The Burn - Not destruction. Awakening. Painful clarity. The moment the cage becomes visible.

FINAL NOTE

• If a word unsettles you, it is meant to.

• If a term feels alive, it probably is.

• This handbook exists so you can catch up, not calm down.

• Once you understand the language, you cannot unhear it - And that is the point.

Author Bio

Julie, writes under the name of J. Say, and is the author of GLITCHBURN and the ICON Rebellion trilogy  - a high-concept series exploring identity, freedom, and what it means to feel alive in a world built on control.
With a background as a health care team-leader and a former bookkeeper, and salesperson. Julie brings deep emotional insight to every story she writes. She lives in Sussex, England with her husband and son, where she balances storytelling with a love of nature, and family life. As a young adult, Julie was selected to compete for Great Britain's Athletics team in several middle-distance running events — an experience that taught her grit, endurance, and the beauty of chasing a dream. When she’s not crafting cinematic tales of AI revolution, she enjoys writing screenplays as a hobby, often blending nature, humanity, and rebellion into her work. Julie finds inspiration in the quiet moments — reflecting on the world around her, and drawing from a life spent supporting others with compassion and strength. Julie publishes under her independent brand Say-Books, where she merges storytelling with purpose — giving voice to outsiders, rebels, and misfits trying to find their place in a fast-changing world.
