I Like The Wizard of Oz Because…

It’s a bit old-school, and maybe the flying monkeys are creepy, but I’ve always had a soft spot for The Wizard of Oz. Not just because of the brave little dog. I like it because it says something real.
Under all the colour and chaos, it’s about trying to find something you thought was missing - only to realise it was already there. You didn’t need a wizard. You just needed to stop doubting yourself.
Like all of us, Dorothy’s just tryin’ to get home. And along the way she meets people who all think they’re broken - no brain, no heart, no courage. But they had it all along.
That hits, doesn’t it?
Because life’s a bit like that too. You end up chasing things - validation, love, a bit of peace - and sometimes you look back and realise… hang on, I had that all the way through. I just didn’t see it.
And that whole “man behind the curtain” thing?Tell me that’s not the most perfect metaphor for the world we live in now. Smoke, mirrors, and some bloke pretending he’s more powerful than he is.
If You Liked That, Try This…
I’ve just finished The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, and if you like your stories with a bit of magic, mystery, and meaning - it’s a good one.
The circus only comes at night. Two people locked in a magical contest. It’s dreamy and a bit surreal, but underneath it’s all about love, control, and tryin’ to live freely when other people are pullin’ your strings. Bit like Dorothy’s yellow brick road, but with more shadows and less singing.
Anyway, if you’ve never revisited The Wizard of Oz as an adult, give it a go.
I like books that say something under the surface. The ones that stay with you after the last page.
